Dr Dave Brummell

David Brummell is leader of a team at Plant & Food Research working on the postharvest physiology of fruit and vegetables, including the biochemical and molecular pathways that affect postharvest senescence and quality. He has a specialist interest in plant cell wall metabolism, particularly the role of cell wall modification in fruit softening and textural change. David joined PFR in 2003 after working at McGill University, the National Research Council of Canada and UC Davis then as a principal scientist at a biotechnology company in Berkeley. He has found the perspective gained from working in universities, industry and government to be valuable as projects have become increasingly applied and related to industry.
